Nationals slots
Every year USPSA awards each Section a number of invitations ("slots") to the USPSA National Championships. The Section decides who gets them. Here is how that works in Alabama.
How the Section earns slots
Activity fees paid to USPSA by every Alabama club are pooled into a single Section-wide count (Bylaws Art. 9). USPSA converts that activity into slots for the Section under its Nationals Slot Policy, roughly one slot per ten participants per division, capped per division. More shooters at Alabama club matches means more slots for Alabama.
Slots earned through performance at the previous Nationals or at the Area 6 Championship go directly to the shooter and do not pass through the Section.
How the Section distributes them
USPSA policy requires that a Section's distribution method always considers placement in matches, may also consider club membership and assistance at events, and never awards slots by lottery or random selection (Section Operations and Governance Policy §2.5(c)-(d)).
For 2027, slots are awarded by application. Shooters who want a Section slot apply to the Section Coordinator; applications are evaluated on match placement first, with club membership and help at Section events also considered. Slots previously distributed by drawing did not meet USPSA policy, and the Section has corrected that.
The 2019 bylaws (Art. 11) still describe the old method and will be amended by the Executive Committee to match. Until then, the process on this page controls.

Claiming a slot
The Section Coordinator will contact successful applicants with the USPSA registration deadline. A slot that cannot be used should be returned to the Section Coordinator promptly so it can be reassigned; unused slots go back to USPSA. Questions: contact the Section Coordinator.
